Not sure why but I really want a VW Arteon.

Give me it in a 1.5TSi ACT, 148bhp with a six speed manual.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Does seem a lot like a Passat with a newer look than my Piglet.

Maybe that’s why I like it.

We don’t get that here in the US. Not a bad looking car. That hatch looks monstrous.

We will get it next year though, I think?

I believe it is going to replace the CC next year.

It reminds me of Piglet a lot.

Elegant flowing lines.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Clamshell bonnet with hidden bonnet shut lines (Piglet hides them better).

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

cavernous boot (Piglet has some hidden ‘practicalities’).

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

I can get all my car cleaning stuff in and close the boot with the rear parcel shelf in place.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Tall boot lid (which means standing in the boot to clean the rear glass).

Kinja'd!!!

It looks like a more updated Passat trying to compete with the looks of the Skoda Superb.

That makes sense, as it shares the MQB platform with the Passat and Superb, while the CC is still on the older Group B platform.

Nice Skoda, by the way!

I had a Skoda Superb Mk2 1.4TSi for three years, no issues other than a blown nearside rear bulb.

Kinja'd!!!

and had Piglet, a Superb Mk3 1.4TSi ACT for nearly two years, again no issues, at all.

Kinja'd!!!

Reliability seems to be more an issue on North Canadian (American) cars than on European cars.

I think it still comes with the CBFA in the CC (2006 Passat). Vw shops will stay busy doing rear main seals for quite some time now.

I had a German built 2011 GTI, and it wasn’t unreliable in the sense it could leave you stranded. But it was always another “well, we noticed x, y, and z” when it was in for service, and always another $500-1000

The only real issues I’ve heard friends come across is dealerships doing the ‘updates’ on their vehicles that can’t be reversed and weren’t asked for (ie Skoda Fabia, VW Golf and a VW Polo).

The diesel ones? Nothing good comes of the diesel updates or so I’m told.

So true. Some have reported issues such as CELs coming on (either randomly or needing reset at car dealerships), vehicles behaving sluggishly, loss in mpg, etc...

148hp in that monster would be awful. Maybe that’s more acceptable outside of the US but I’ve never had that little power and every car I’ve owned was from the 20th century besides the Acura. Looks great though! Why not get a CC with the 2.0t?

Kinja'd!!! Svend > awmaster10
12/27/2017 at 10:48

Kinja'd!!!1

It’s the same power as I get from Piglet.

Kinja'd!!!

She is 148bhp/250Nm torque, gets 50mpgUK/42mpgUS (in the city as well as motorway), 0-60 in 8.3secs, top speed of 137mph, unladen weight is 1,360Kg.

Kinja'd!!!

has a luggage capacity of 625, towing weight unbraked/braked 710/1,600Kg,

I’ve never wanted for speed or pace. Never felt sluggish pulling uphill or fully laden, nor have I ever felt like I need more than I have.

Hard accelerating from a stand still is reckless, going above the speed limit is illegal (yes, I know we all do it a little)

The U.S. thinking is ‘more power’, the European thinking is ‘economy, practicality and cost’.

On a motorway where 70mph is the limit, a 450bhp car does nothing a 150bhp can’t. On a city street a 450bhp does nothing a 150bhp car can’t, on a section of road a 450bhp may out accelerate faster than a 150bhp car but then again the next variable is competency.

There are certain things the U.S won’t understand from Europe and vice versa.

Looks huge from the pictures, does it really come with a 6 speed?

I’ve heard (from people in the UK as well) that Czech-built Skodas have a reputation for being better screwed together than VAG’s other products, particularly ones out of their German plants. Our Volkswagens in the US come from Mexico, Tennessee, and Germany, depending on the model.

it has almost the exact specs of my Piglet.

The 6 speed is great, power is more than I need.

It really does look great, but then again so does Piglet. I might have to consider it for a DD replacement.

The VWs out of Germany, Skodas out of Czech, Seats out of Spain, etc... all do great but ye’, the Skodas do have consistently less woes.

When it came time to change our Skoda Superb Mk2 for a new car, we went into the dealership and ordered a Skoda Superb Mk3, no test drive, no looking around, went in, 30 minutes later we came out having placed an order for a new build. Never even entertained the notion of looking at other cars or marques.

As soon as I said this I figured it probably has good torque figures. 8 seconds to 60 is far from slow too, and the liftback means lots of space. So is the arteon basically just an aesthetic upgrade from yours?

Kinja'd!!! Svend > BeaterGT
12/27/2017 at 11:27

Not sure the U.S. would get the 1.5TSi, probably will get the 2.0TDi and the auto only 2.0TSi.

Kinja'd!!! Svend > awmaster10

Kinja'd!!!1

The VW (non US) Passat and Skoda Superb are essentially the same car, the Arteon seems to be an updated more styled version of the Passat.

All the specs match perfectly between the Passat, Arteon and Superb.

I think the Arteon is trying to get back some of the sales VW has lost out to Skoda.

In the U.K. anyway VW has lost ground to Skoda. The same or better cars for less money.

Hopefully it’ll continue to be built in Germany so you get a proper one unlike the NMS Passat built at the Chattanooga plant which bares little resemblance to the Passat the rest of the world gets.

hopefully. Since it is intended as a lower-volume car, they may just choose to ship it over from Germany as they have been doing with the CC

To be fair, you antipodean cousins will probably get it only in 2.0TSi auto and 2.0TDi auto, while the north American cousins will get the 2.0TSi auto.

I’m happy with 148bhp especially if I can keep a manual gearbox, even if I lose the physical handbrake (which I have in the Superb).
